Why the Name Bike Rider Up?

bike rider up trail ride

My inspiration for this website came from being on the trail of course!

If you didnt’ know, when encountering other riders out in the elements, as a notice and precaution, it’s common courtesy and a friendly gesture to other riders to say “Rider Up!!”

Every so often you hear someone with a bell, or they have music blasting from a portable speaker.  But I like to stay a little more personable and sometimes make comments.

“Rider Up! Watch out for sharp rocks in that rock garden!”  Or “There’s a snake back there!”

I don’t have many friends who like riding as much as I do, unfortunately.  So hopefully this website can also be a way of connecting with other enthusiasts for future rides.  I hesitate on features sometimes, or don’t do them completely just due to the fact that I’m by myself on most of my rides… just for the safety aspect.  It’s the smart thing to do, but then again I wish I could’ve hit the feature if you know what I mean.

Anyway, more stuff to come! And as always, questions and comments are welcome any time!

P.S.  I live in Texas and travel a lot for work to the surrounding states.  I take my bike with me most of the time to explore the local trails.  I’ll be around the Lubbock Texas area August 2018… doesn’t look like there’s too much going on there (I think there’s only 1 local trail) but I’m always up for exploring.  If I don’t feel like going out on trails I also take the bike out onto the streets and work on my trials skills.  Integrating trials skills onto the trails is a HUGE benefit.  Side hops, bunny hops, balance… it’s makes being a mountain biker fun!
